Longest Zip Wire in England is Unveiled
Looking for a bit of excitement on your educational packed day out? then this could fit the bill. Flying through the air with the aid of a tiny wire at 30mph is not for the faint hearted or the height fear'rs, but if you love adrenaline thrills, then the new attraction at the Eden Project in Cornwall, Sky Wire, will definitely do the business of getting your adrenaline pumping.
The Eden Project's biomes are world-famous - set in a deep quarry, it houses the largest indoor rain forest on the planet and hosts a number of environmental projects, as well as doing incredibly important research. The bio mes themselves are fascinating to walk through but the gardens are so vast that viewing them from the air is a treat
On a clear day airborne visitors will have a view of beautiful St Austell Bay and the surrounding countryside. While strapped into a safety harness, you'll be able to see the whole of Eden's 35-acre pit. There are around 100,000 plants from around the world clustered at the attraction
Zip Wire Rides In UK
At 740 metres, the zip wire at the Eden Project is the longest zip wire in England. (at the time this was written.) Try the one at Karting world just up at Menheniot not far from Liskeard Cornwall, that was reported to be the longest in the country in England and it stretches across a quarry lake, which gives it a high drop as well as long ride.
Looking for a greater zip wire rush, head north up the country, there is a good one that is reported to be the longest one in the UK, at Laggan Outdoor Activity Centre, near Gatehouse of Fleet, Scotland.
The longest zip wire in the world is in South Africa, in Sun City, and stretches two kilometres long. There are plans to build a two-mile zip wire in South Gwynedd, Wales, which may make it the longest in the world.
Eden's CEO Gaynor Coley (pictured) said rather poetically: 'The Sky Wire has many meanings to us here at Eden. Not only does it give an exhilarating ride to thrill seekers visiting the project but it also represents the risks people take to be successful in an ever-changing world.' I think she is talking about more than riding the Longest Zip Wire in England here.
The Eden Project has so far attracted one million visitors but will no doubt draw a few more who want to try out the stunning attraction, as the Longest Zip Wire in England is Unveiled. For further details visit the website.
